Semaglutide
Semaglutide– Semaglutide is a GLP-1 medication (glucagon-like peptide-1 agonist) that has been given for years for the treatment of type 2 diabetes. However, while using it, patients often noticed they also lost weight. This sparked one of the most strenuous weight loss research studies in modern times which showed at higher doses and given by injection once weekly patients saw up to a 15% reduction in total body weight. Semaglutide achieves these results by stimulating the release of hormones that cause insulin to be triggered and blocks sugar absorption. Additionally, it has been shown to delay gastric emptying which is where it will slow down the speed at which food leaves the stomach. This means patients feel full longer, have a decrease in appetite, and a decrease in cravings.
